IT Document Solutions Joins Businesses in Celebration of Dan’s Fund for Burn’s 20th Anniversary Ball
Last weekend, Surrey based charity, Dan’s Fund for Burns celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Hurlingham Club, Fulham in London.
The charity was founded by Polly Brooks (Miller), following the terrorist bombings that took place in Bali during 2002.
During 2002, Polly was newlywed, celebrating her honeymoon with her husband and loved ones in Bali. At approximately 11pm on 12 October 2002, three bombs were detonated, which took the lives of over 200 people. Polly lost her husband in the bombings and, as the sole survivor of a party of ten, is a burns survivor herself.
Polly has seen first-hand just how devastating a burn can be, both physically and emotionally. She experienced personally how little aftercare and support there was for adult burn survivors in the UK and decided to do something about it.
In 2003, Polly founded Dan’s Fund for Burns. Since then, the charity has been dedicated to being an ever-ready source of assistance for burn survivors throughout the UK. The charity provides support through a range of services, including funding, job retraining, equipment for hospitals and more.
Over the last two decades, Polly has empowered many through sharing her story and raising funds to support burn survivors get the emotional, financial, and physical support they need.
This year, ITVX released a thought-provoking drama series, Bali 2002, which shared insight into the horrific attack and the stories of survivors, which included Polly’s experience.
In the series, Polly was played by Bridgerton's Claudia Jessie, who attended the 20th anniversary charity event. During the event, Claudia joined Polly on stage, where they shared how they worked together to portray Polly’s incredible story through the drama series.
Here is a recent interview from the BBC’s ‘The One Show’, where Polly and Claudia discuss Polly experiences and why it was so important for Claudia to accurately capture this in the TV series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r8JKXjTfhk
IT Document Solutions sponsored this charitable event, which raised over £100,000 on the night.
Jermaine Weeden, CEO of IT Document Solutions, initially met Polly at the Dubai 7’s in 2018 where they supported the Bali Legends rugby team in support of Dans Fund for Burns. Jermaine had played several times in the Bali memorial match in Hong Kong during rugby week and was pleased to finally meet Polly and the team. They have remained close friends ever since.
Since then, he has been dedicated to creating awareness and sponsoring fundraising initiatives that support this worthy charity.
Jermaine Weeden said:
“The work that Polly and the team does is vital to so many people who need help in the darkest of times. The charities first-hand knowledge and experience helps the beneficiaries to relate to those who have had similar mental and physical challenges. As in most life changing injuries the support is needed after hospital treatment to help people overcome not just the physical scares, but the mental day to day challenges of life.”
